When people say it

• A German review of Chenjerai Hove's essay collection Palaver Finish, written around the 2002 election, notes that Hove quotes this proverb often. The reviewer then pointed it at Mugabe and his allies, saying their sense of safety would not last. Weaver Press (Leipzig Almanach review)
• Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited used the proverb as the title of a track on their 1997 album Chimurenga Movement. Thomas Mapfumo on Bandcamp
