- Ben Manyenyeni, mayor of Harare from 2013 to 2018, used the proverb in a January 2025 opinion piece about the city council. He used it for the late effects of old decisions, such as a water system built 60 years ago. NewsDay Zimbabwe
- A trader in Chinhoyi cheated a supplier on a small order and nothing came of it for months. His mother said it when that supplier stopped selling to him just before Christmas.
